Accessibility

Updated 22 August 2026

We want everyone to be able to use Online Calendar, including people who use a keyboard, screen reader, magnification or high contrast.

What we aim for

Pages are built to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA as far as a calendar grid reasonably allows. That includes:

  • A skip link to the main content.
  • Visible focus styles on links, buttons and form fields.
  • Labels on form fields, with example text in placeholders where it helps.
  • Headings in a logical order.
  • Calendar tables with captions and column headers.
  • Each date cell including a readable date, not colour alone. Today is also marked in text for screen readers. Weekends and bank holidays are not communicated by colour only.
  • Text that can be resized in the browser.

Known limits

A full year on one screen is dense. On small phones the month grid uses shorter weekday labels and bank holidays may show as a marker with the full name available to assistive technology. Year printouts use one month per page.

Chinese, lunar and Islamic overlays add extra text in each cell. If that is hard to read, use the Gregorian year or month view, or download a PDF.

Keyboard

You can tab through the header, search, main links and forms. Dropdown menus follow Bootstrap’s keyboard pattern (Enter or Space to open, Escape to close). Calendar days are in a table, so screen reader table commands work better than tabbing every cell.

PDFs and images

Downloaded PDFs are simple tables of dates. They may be less accessible than the HTML calendar. If you need a different format, contact us with the year or month you need.

Third parties

Optional analytics or advertising scripts load only after consent. We cannot control how those third parties present their own interfaces.

Report a barrier

If something blocks you, use the contact form. Please include the page address, what you were trying to do, and the browser or assistive technology you use. We will look at it and reply.
